Timeline: Three Days Ago

[So’l and Sharuth’s Wey]
[Kere Valla Weyr]
[Three Days Ago]

For the last 10 turns, So'l and Sharuth had flown the skies of the Northern continent, completing all manner of odd jobs, from ferrying heavy equipment and supplies to carrying dignitaries back and forth from Hold to Weyr. Without Thread, dragonmen and their lifemates had to deliberately find ways to prove themselves useful. But when Thread did eventually return, man and dragon had taken to searing the skies with the rest, eventually becoming quite skilled in the practice.

For the last three turns, So'l had flown as a Wingsecond, developing his leadership skills under his Wingleader, K'nan. K'nan had often encouraged the young dragonrider to take a more active leadership role, teaching So'l how to understand people, their motivations, and what caused them to act the way they did. Under K'nan's tutelage, So'l began to excel at this, too, and when the Wingleader felt him ready, K'nan recommended that So'l take on a wing of his own.

Sadly, the wings of his home Weyr already had their Wingleaders. If So'l wanted to continue his own development, he knew that he and Sharuth would have to leave the comforts of home and settle down somewhere new. Thus So'l had begun his search, finally finding an open Wingleader position for Copper Wing at Kere Valla. With the stout recommendations of his Weyrleader and Wingleader, So'l was granted the position and life was set to begin anew.

Today was that day. Looking around at the weyr he shared with the great bronze Sharuth, So'l let out a slight sigh. ** I'm going to miss this place, ** he sent to the dragon, looking around at the now-empty weyr; empty, of course, except for the piles of gear and belongings that sat in the middle of the living area's floor.

}: We'll be back, :{ Sharuth comforted from his hollow. The large bronze rumbled as he rose from his lounging position, already clad in his riding straps. }: With me, you can return home in an instant, So'l. And I can still bathe in my favorite lakes, :{ he sent, a piny aftertaste accompanying his thoughts. They both loved the forested lands of their home but the idea of something new was also exciting.

** True enough, ** So'l conceded. ** Though we'll probably find some great spots to wash that hide of yours in Kere Valla, too. ** He began to pick up his gear then, moving into the outermost part of the weyr where Sharuth sat waiting for him. Clip-clip-clip, on went the attaching of said gear to the dragon's straps, affixing it all in place.

}: Roranth sent me an image of a beach. I want to go there, :{ the dragon thought, images of rolling around in the shallows accompanying his thoughts. The bronze lowered himself a bit so that So'l could reach some of the upper attachment points for the belongings they were bringing.

** Roranth gets around alright, I'll give him that, ** So'l thought back, his mind lingering on the beloved brown and his rider, R'kal. ** I know you will miss him. I'm sorry we've gotta leave, ** So'l lamented, stepping up on one of Sharuth's bent forelegs to reach a particularly tricky storage spot.

The two dragons had both come from the same clutch and had grown up together. And though R'kal had never returned So'l's affections as more than friends, So'l found himself sad to leave behind such a great friend himself. Still, they would both make new friends at Kere Valla: there was a lot of newness waiting for them there. With the affixing of one last duffel bag, all that was left was to go.

Clambering up the bronze's body and neck, So'l settled between the ridges there and strapped himself in. "Let's get going," he said aloud, urging the dragon up and over the lip of the weyr with his thoughts. As the dragon rose to comply, So'l looked around one last time. This would no longer be home, but maybe that was for the best.
}: Home is wherever we are together, :{ Sharuth thought back comfortingly, stepping forward and dropping from the weyr lip.

The dragonpair dropped quickly, heading for the surface, until Sharuth spread and angled his wings to create lift. The wingsails caught the air and hurled them upward, the powerful pumping of wings providing additional altitude as they skimmed the Weyrbowl and then rose, finally coming to a hovering stop.

** You ready? ** So'l asked with a thought, not trusting his already-homesick voice.

}: I am. We go! :{ the bronze thought, trumpeting a goodbye to the Weyr before taking them into the frigidness of between.
